OKAY SO IN MY ICE CREAM AND DIGIMON WATCHING I CAME ACROSS A COUPLE OF INTERESTING THINGS:

So, in episode 10 we see Izzy and Mimi find these old ruins, that just so happen to have a room with the "Mystical symbol of the digivice" carved on a wall. The old ruins are full on temples with a guardian (Centarumon) and everything. He then goes on to say "The digivice is a preserver of the light, a last line of defense against the darkness that threatens our existence."

((Honestly something I've always enjoyed about digimon is how they have such ancient prophecy type stuff about technology and also they have cyborg centaurs like I love digimon so much))

Also in this whole mini-arc going on, we see digivices being used multiple times to drive away darkness and dark gears out of affected digimon, and they kind of become weapons for the kids to use.

((also this is kinda neither here nor there but somehow Izzy was able to set up his headset to communicate with Mimi via her digivice so that's a thing that can happen??? Whatever, I'm for it XD ))

Later in episode 13, Leomon gives this monologue:

"According to ancient legend our world will be taken over by a strange dark force that will change good digimon into bad digimon. Our ancestors have predicted that a group of children called the digidestined will appear from another world. When they arrive they will come to posess super powers that will eventually save our world from destruction. It's been foretold that the digidestined have the ability to make digimon digivolve."

So, nothing we didn't really already know, but it's still cool to hear. I'll probably have more meat to add to this after the next digimon night bc Gennai just showed up and we're about to get into crest territory :DDDDDD

OKAY SO THIS LAST SESSION WAS EPS 14-18. What I'm going to be talking about is in episodes 14, 16, and 17.

So real quick, just some stuff we already pretty much knew but were further reinforced in this session:

*The kids can really easily destroy black gears with their digivices. Like, Tai took care of the one in Whamon with 0 trouble.
*the digivolution rules according to Izzy's calculations are: Lots of energy (so, lots of food), and their partner must be in danger. Of course, as we find out later that really only applies to rookie -> champion, as champion -> adult for the 01 kids is more of a crest-based thing.
*Digivolution can't happen unless the kids are in close proximity
*There is more than one land mass in the digital world, as the first arc took place on File Island while the second arc takes place on Server Continent. (So expect to have a lot of land masses with computery names)
*the digivolution animations kinda look like they're downloading the new info/new software which I never really put together before and I think that's kinda cool. It's like they're updating, y'know?

Next, some quick stuff on crests bc even though they don't have much to do with our plot, I still think they're cool:

*The tags glow whenever a crest is near, but the tags themselves were pretty non-descript until the kids put them on. And I don't think it's ever really explained if the tags have any other function besides that.
*The crests, meanwhile, are actually massive stone blocks that shrink in order to fit into said tags and were hidden basically everywhere. Courage was near a koromon village and Sincerity was in a cactus flower, which were both thematically relevant, but Reliability was in a colosseum and Knowledge and Friendship were both in a well????  whaaaaaaaatever </pidge voice>

OKAY NOW THE GOOD STUFF

GENNAI:

*first off this old man is super sassy and full of beans.
*introduces himself as a "friend to all, yet at the same time a friend to none" which is p sketch
*also introduces himself as "human, but also not", and continues to be sketch
*Says he's been there "Since before the beginning, and will exist until the end of time", which is just the icing on the sketch cake
*seriously Gennai what are you?!?!?!?!
*He remotely hacked Izzy's laptop and was able to put filed onto it
*He also has no clue who trapped them in the digital world but personally I think that's a load of beans. If he's as old as he's saying he has to know
*He also knows a lot about the digivolution and the tags and crests and all that chosen children jazz
*The tags were sealed away by Devimon, not that it did him any good since he got roasted by a very determined flying potato
*He mentions that the tags and crests are extremely important (obv) and not to let others get a hold of them. At this point, it's not really explained why, whether it would keep the kids from digivolving to ultimate or if others would be able to digivolve to ultimate using them, either one is an interesting insinuation
* "In the end, they will work together to help create total harmony"  whatever THAT means </pokemon bridged Ash voice>
(This info comes from episodes 14 and 17)

DARKIVOLUTION:

*holy beans episode 16 is a great episode it's so good I loVE THIS SKULL PUPPY
*The only Darkivolution we see in 01 comes from Tai forcing Greymon to evolve. Greymon(champion) went up only one level to Skullgreymon(ultimate), and as we know from 02 dark evolutions can go even further.
*I haven't gotten to the actual ultimate evolutions so I'm not sure, but the ultimate evolution we got in this episode made it look like Tai's digivice was glowing a different color
*the download spot looks less like a cool bunch of coding and more like a literal portal to hell
*like, literal beams of hellfire come down from wherever and envelop Greymon
*Greymon glowed orange
*in his rampage he didn't seem to be able to recognize anyone? It's weird, bc we've seen evil digimon before, but most of the "true" evil digimon (ie. those that weren't controlled by something) were incredibly intelligent and lucid and aware of what they were doing, whereas Skullgreymon didn't speak, didn't seem to recognize anything or anyone or have any kind of idea what he was doing. (though you could argue that he ran out of the colosseum and into the desert in order to keep himself from hurting anyone else, but that's more speculation than anything) So I'm wondering if that form was just automatic rage-destructo mode? Or, if he'd been stuck in that form, would he have eventually calmed down enough to regain speech? Actually, scratch that, I never want to think about Skullgreymon speaking ever again nope nope nope nope nope
*he seems to burn energy super quick. This could just be because it's the first time Agumon's reached ultimate, but it's also possible that darkivolutions just take more energy to maintain due to their increased power output
*afterwards he went straight back down to Koromon, dropping 2 evolutions and was exhausted for the next couple of days, poor babby :c

ANYWAYS I'D FORGOTTEN MOST OF THAT INFORMATION UNTIL TONIGHT

OKAY SO i forgot to write this stuff down as it was happening bc I am very very sleepy BUT:

in eps 19-21, 19 especially, Izzy unpacks a looot of world building, specifically that the digital world is a "shadow version" of the real world, such that things affecting the digital world affect the real world and vice versa. The two essentially overlap, and while the kids are technically data, their actions in the digital world have real world consequences.

Also areas with digicode written on the walls can be edited by a tech god like Izzy and you can literally and I mean literally email yourself to different places in the digital world like Izzy literally says "No I attached us all as files and emailed us here" like honestly the digital world acts like a digital world should and I love it.

Also in ep 21, Tai and Kari can see digimon on the news reports and walking around on the streets, but only a few other people can. Dunno if this is ever explained.
Lots of people seemed to be able to see Koromon tho.

HOO BOY HERE'S A BIGGUN

Episode 28 is basically nothing but Gennai being shady and talking just enough worldbuilding

He knows they're digidestined, and says that they were chosen "To save this world and your own" and then promptly ignores all other questions with the response, "That's all you need to know for now."

HE ALSO CONFIRMS THERE ARE MANY MANY OTHER WORLDS OUT THERE. The gate they go through to get back to their world apparently has a keycard (emphasis on the card) system, and while there seems to be only one right answer he claims that if they were to put in a different combination, they would be taken to another world. He doesn't elaborate in anything more than hypotheticals but it's nice to know they were talking about the Dark Ocean all the way back then.

There's also a super cute scene of Izzy staying up and nerding out with Gennai and I wrote down their conversation, starting with something of how the same material is used in all worlds:

"Molecules and atoms?"
"Exactly! Everything came from computer data in your world, so if there are strange things here they're the result of broken or missing data"
"What about you gennai? Are you just made up of computer data too?"
"Of course! So in each of the worlds I would appear somewhat... different!" (gennai what)
"But gennai if you're not human, how are you different from digimon?"
"I don't have any attributes" (meaning he has no attacks and he can't digivolve. What I want to know is how is he different from humans, but they didn't cover that.)

This isn't really plot relevant but he made a digi-analyzer adapter for any digivice to scan the digimon other digidestined have seen and this sketchy old guy has done so many rad updates to Izzy's computer it makes me happy. He can also apparently contact them in the real world via it which honestly makes sense.

Not a lot of things in this session (eps 34-39) but some fun stuff nonetheless:

*Gatomon couldn't attack Kari due to chosen kid + chosen digimon nonsense. She also had this feeling she was waiting for someone, even if she didn't know who she was waiting for.

*Digital barriers are things that can be downloaded from the digital world and set up in the real world, as seen with Izzy last-second downloading one from Gennai, and it just... sort of hiding everyone from outside digimon? Whatever it was cool. My Smol Smart Son is amazing.

*When the digital and real worlds were doing the whole sky thing, whenever anything hit part of the digital world it would turn polygonal and all electronics would crash
